Abusive Relationship(2)
Many people do not know the signs to watch for to recognize that their friend or loved one is in an abusive relationship. Abuse can happen in any type of relationship and both women and men can be abused. There are obvious signs like bruises, wounds or black eyes, sometimes with unrealistic reasons or excuses told about where they came from. In other cases it's more subtle such as the person not being around or available to hang out with anyone else. Not just a busy patch or spending time with a new romantic interest, but for an extended period of time.
Is their partner unreasonably jealous? Do you get that uncomfortable feeling when you're around them? One of the worst signs is when you notice someone's personality completely change. This is a scary and dramatic sign of abuse. If you suspect your friend is being abused, talk with them one-on-one. Listen to what they have to say and refrain from badmouthing their partner. Help them find resources that could help them out. If they don't take the help in whatever form it may be, such as the contact number to a help hotline, hold on to the information anyway. Be patient; it may take some time for him or her to come around.
